AMA CANDLE
Introducing our crème colored „Ama“ candle – a reflection of what our brand stands for: the embracement of cherished memories and the essence of belonging. Each of us carries a unique story, deeply rooted in our homes and families. Finding a sense of belonging in a place, a community, or a special group can be challenging.
The inspiration for „Ama“ stems from the extraordinary love of mothers, a love that takes many different beautiful forms. In the Akan language, spoken primarily in Ghana, the name "Ama" is given to girls born on Saturday. The Akan people often name their children based on the day of the week they were born, and each day has a corresponding name for both boys and girls. This naming tradition is an integral part of the Akan culture and is used to reflect the significance of the day of birth in a person's identity. Ama, the name of co-founder Freddy Mackensy's mother, brings back great childhood memories for us. Freddy and I used to spend a lot of time together. When my mother was at work, I’d stay at Freddy's place, and vice versa when his mom was at work. Even when she wasn't working, she would take us both to play or to the store to buy candy and toys. Our mothers taught us that stepping beyond our comfort zones leads to incredible growth.
Born and raised in Germany, we made beautiful memories, gained experiences, and learned how to overcome challenges, which shaped us. Exploring new places, meeting new people, and embracing different cultures has shown us the privilege of calling more than one place ‚home.‘
That’s why our ‚Ama‘ campaign took us back to our motherland, Ghana, and our adopted home in Sweden.
Our mission was to capture the true meaning of belonging, the significance of ‚home,‘ and the importance of motherhood for our brand.
